We understand whole heartedly how much you love your wedding dress.  The emotional value is priceless! In the end the asking price is decided by you, the seller but we have gained experience during the years we owned and operated a full service wedding boutique . Here are suggestions to guide you on how much to ask for your gown in order to ensure you have the best selling power possible.

When evaluating your wedding gown, do not include the tax you paid when you purchased it a nd do not consider the cost of the alternations. Gowns whether they are brides, mothers, brides maids or flower girls will always sell well if they have been professionally cleaned and are pristine.  If you are in the Montreal area, The Wedding Trunk can arrange wedding gown cleaning at a deep discounted price. 

If you are in the Montreal area we can arrange for cleaning and repairs but these costs will be added to the cost of placing your ad.

Items should be free of odor such as mothballs, perfumes and smoke. No tears, rips, stains, no buttons missing, working zippers etc. Any defect no matter how small must be noted in the description.

Gowns are to be taken outside of the box if preserved, checked all over and put on a strong hanger then put into a see through garment bag if possible.  Find the original bill of sale if you still have it along with style number so pricing is done fairly.  As seen with our own eyes, most gowns that were box-preserved don't fare well.  Our experience with the customer has been one of surprise and even shock at the condition of the gown  when the box is opened

It will be cheaper to ship in the smallest box posible.  Gowns will have to be steamed after any method of shipping.

2 YEARS OLD OR LESS
WORN ONCE AND IN PRISTINE A1 CONDITION
If your dress has been worn once, we suggest that you consider at least 30% off of the retail price (do not include tax you paid or cost of alterations.)

2 YEARS OLD OR LESS
ALTERED, NEVER WORN
If your dress has been altered, but never worn, we suggest between 30% to 50% off the original retail price (do not include tax you paid.)

2 YEARS OLD OR LESS
NEVER ALTERED - NEVER WORN,
You can expect to get more for it.  However, we suggest at least a 20% TO 30% discount from the retail price (do not include tax you paid.)

OLDER THAN 2 YEARS BUT LESS THAN 4
The older your dress is (even if it is perfectly preserved), the larger your discount should be.
Perhaps you could give 50% to 60% off the original retail price (do not include tax you paid.) How classic is the style?

2002 OR OLDER
If your dress is older than 2002, we recommend at least 75% off of the original retail price (do not include tax or any alterations you paid.)   Styles have greatly changed since 2002 and another noticeable update in 2007.
